Vangionis Trattoria and Bar

Open Seven Days

5pm till late.

The restaurant is situated in the original Vangionis General Store, which was built around 1898.
The proprietor was Joseph Louis Vangionis.
His pet Yellow-eyed Penguin, Pompey, was a big attraction in Akaroa from !904 until 1917 and is the reason for the penguin in our logo.
In keeping with the Italian history the cuisine is typically Mediterranean.
A wide range of ingredients are sourced fresh each day and cooked to order. There is an extensive menu but also a tempting specials board.
The open kitchen adds to that trattoria feel of Italy. The smell of the pizza oven with the chef throwing the dough in the air in the foreground adds to the convivial atmosphere. Put it all together with an exciting and extensive wine list and there evolves an opportunity for a great dining experience.
A verandah at the back overlooks a delightfully landscaped courtyard that is perfect for warm evenings.
A great place to sit under the olive trees eating tapas with a glass of Chianti or Three Boys pilsner.
We are happy to cater for special occasions and small weddings.
