General Discussion | Post DineOut : Where to next?

Just wondering if any of you post reviews in other sites or blog your reviews too. Would you be willing to share them?

I don't have a specific site for myself. In the last few months I have been reading and posting in reddit group /r/NZFood . I am also active in the local/NZ related reddit subreddits.

I also have a group of IT people who meet for an indian dinner every other Thursday.
It isn't the food though we want reasonably good curry. For various reasons the best/top places don't suit us.

What are you going to do with the reviews you have posted here? Will you be copying it to a blog or another site?

I'll miss being able to hassle Nulli on street food.

Probably those of you who remember my name (before I changed to NZDiner) can find me online wink ;)

Best wishes to all.

I'm going to try Zomato. I don't like it as much as DineOut but I guess at least you can post photos.

I post on Trip Advisor from time to time. It can be useful to consult, but I think more for motels than for food.

Not being impressed by Menumania/Zomato, we are at a loss at where to go next to continue submitting reviews and taking part in discussions. Maybe, like mjh, trip Advisor could be a possibility.

I also use trip advisor. A mere coincidence that so does mjh.

Yes, while I do make use of Trip Advisor, DineOut has (had) been for several years my "go to" place for local reviews. When I think about it (usually on Thursday or Friday when I contemplate where to go out for dinner on the weekend) I now become depressed. Trip Advisor reviews of restaurants generally give impressions, not details, and are far too sketchy. I will, I do already, miss all of my fellow reviewers reviews! So to my fellow VIPs/frequent reviewers, esp those in Christchurch, where I am based: is there anyway we might stay in contact with each other to share our wonderfully informative and idiosyncratic views on our dining out experiences? an email network? A facebook page [eeeh, not my first choice]?? Send me a private message with your ideas. Or is this a dumb idea? Best wishes to you all!

It's a great idea.... A facebook page is easy but I know there are lots of people who don't like Facebook. What other options are out there?

I've used Trip Advisor for reviewing (and viewing) overseas restaurants and local and overseas accomodation, seems pretty good.

Ive been using trip adviser and its ok but not great. would never use a facebook application. i wont even go dine at places that put their menus on FB instead of a real web page.

February 1st 2017 has come and gone, and the DineOut website is still there. But then the 'farewell speech' on its home page didn't specify which year - is it too much to hope that something is in the air to save it? We, undoubtedly amongst many other former devotees, certainly hope so.

How about one of you young guys or girls take over the administration. I am sure that the keen reviewers would help the initial cost. To join Dineout perhaps a small fee could be charged?

I really hope he keeps this forum going. That is something I do miss.

I've been using Zomato. It has some good features i.e. photos but there are so many restaurants missing from their database and in some cases whole cities are missing. Bah Humbug
