My birthday and decided on St Germain bcos of great reviews.4 of us ( wife, son and his gf) decided on 5 course surprise menu with matching wines.Started with liver farfait with brioche matched with a slightly sweet wine.Parfait was good but the brioche was crumbling.Next came prawn with squid ink with sauvignon blanc. Not great. Then grouper with a light broth with Chablis. Grouper excellent.Fillet steak and blue cheese gratin matched with Pinor Noir. Steak beautifully cooked but the extremely sweet sauce disappointing. Dessert puff pastry with poached pear and cheese ice-cream accompanied by a '96 muscat.Everybody's favourite. The French wines were very good and lifted the food.We left reasonably satisfied but not impressed. Maybe our expectations were too high.Looking around the almost full restaurant on a Tuesday night, think we could have done better with a la carte.Next time.
