Visiting friends in Lyttelton we decided on an early dinner at Freemans before heading back to the big smoke. It took a while to get seated due to their 'Live Jazz Sunday' and the good weather making it a very popular place. However we were offered a table and menus and water (sparkling!) and placed an order for some pizzas, zucchini fries and hand cut fries.
Our drinks arrived promptly and fries not long after (we ordered them as a starter). I have not had zucchini fries before, but I'm sold on them! Their hand cut fries were also think and crispy and soft on the inside.
The pizzas arrived and had a nice crispy base and good toppings as well.
My lady-companions had a dessert mix of Cointreau soaked strawberries and some kind of decadent chocolate cake thing. I knew it was good because I only heard moans mixed with giggling and cackling. The plates were spotless so I can assume it was delicious, even without getting a taste myself.
Service had been a bit spotty at the start but once we were at our table it was great. Another traffic jam when paying (we were in a hurry by then of course) and then we were off. Overall, we had a great time and would go back without hesitation.
