Went to the above restaurant after the movies as they were just below the theatre,
We intended to go elsewhere but after a 2.50min movie we were quite hungry. So here we were.
Entre of pizza bread with pesto and garlic was reasonably tasty and quite fulling.
Dear wife had the ribeye steak medium which with chunky chips and salad was just okay.
I had the fish of the day (Wharehou) wrapped in Bacon with heaps of chopped vegetables and to be honest far to much vege,s and the fish was absolutely tasteless and mostly dry.
Good Wine selection.
I said to my lovely wife.
That's it ,No more pub type meals.
We payed probably a bit more than average so a little bit more we will be going elsewhere .
Dropped in on a Thursday night on the offchance they had a table for the family and we got seated immediately. Waiter was over almost immediately with menus and took drinks. First time here and not sure what to expect but a solid Pizza & Pasta joint. Good salads and steaks as well by all accounts.
Really nice Pizzas, one of the kids had a salad they loved. Decent enough wine and really good service in general. Wouldn't hesitate to go back for more.
Reasonably priced at $170 for family of 5 with a couple of beers and a couple of big glasses of wine each as well.
It is my 2nd visit to Cocopelli last Sunday, but with GrabOne coupon this time.
Friendly and approachable staffs.
Cosy and comfy environment.
Prompt service, and the food too.
We had trojan pizza of medium-sized. It is of lamb cutlet pieces, garnished with capsicum, red onions, feta cheese and tzatziki dressing. It reminds me of Greek lamb dish. This is accompanied by salad greens and fries. Lamb pieces are succulent and moist. Salads is fresh and the fries are just nice and crisp. Yummy!! :)
Oops..it was a 2 person-lunch, and we were seriously well-fed after the meal.
Looking forward to bring my family to Cocopelli in their upcoming NZ trip. :)
Cocopellis is a real favourite for ours, we have been so many time we have lost count! Service and food are always quite consistent which I think is really important.
We often make a note of sitting inside, as if it's a hot day there does tend to be flies outside although this doesn't look like something that can be helped with the other neighbouring restaurants.
We often order pizzas which are always fresh and delicious. A favourite of mine are their Ceasar salads which are presented well and taste great! Love the fact they have 2 different sizes of drinks available also. The service is always very good (we mainly go for lunch on the weekends - especially the cheaper pizzas), with staff checking in to make sure everything is OK and whether we need more drinks. Is a regular for us, so well done to all the staff and management there.
Having been to Cocopelli a number of times previously, I was looking forward to dining out with work colleagues for lunch. However today was a different story, I have to start off with the terrible service that we had to deal with. Not only did we have to personally ask for our meals to be ordered, as we had been waiting for some time as the servers walked past numerous times. The food was average, but my friend who ordered off the lunch special menu (pasta dish) her pasta was drowned in a sea of rich sauce, with hardly any pasta. The sauce was so runny, and not very appetizing either. After our disappointing meal, we were all ready to order some dessert... well that was if anyone would come and serve us. We only saw a server once while taking our meal orders, and then a very quick check up on us during the meal. We waited for a long time to be served, or to be asked for dessert, yet none of the girls came over, actually it appeared as if they were ignoring our table, as they walked past numerous times when a number of us mentioned clearly about wanting dessert. Completely ignored, while they were talking in the corner- was not happy at all with the service, or the girls attitudes. Also this was at lunch time, and there were only three other tables there!!! Ended up going somewhere else for dessert. Won't be returning.
It was a girl night out of dinner and movies.
Service was excellent, very prompt and helpful as well as quick to clear away dirty dishes. We ordered a pizza each: Trojan was delicious, as was the Matador, and I had the Julius Caesar which tasted similar to a souvlaki minus the humus and tomato and we ordered wedges to share. All delicous!!
Plenty of time to order and eat and we even had time to put our doggy bags (in this case boxes) in the car before enjoying the movie.
Will definitely be returning!
We ordered VIII Rakaia and XIII Yes, Dear. My friend said her Rakaia pizza was really good. My pizza was a bit doughy but the venison was nice and tender. The service pretty good, plenty of staff delivering food and keeping an eye on tables. It was a warm evening and all the outside tables were full, we decided it was far too hot to sit outside but there could've been a bit more cool air inside.
Quick meal here before the movies - arrived unbooked and with a tight deadline. Greeted professionally and warmly, advised as to suitable food to order and seated. Almost immediately a waitress arrived and clearly had been briefed by the Maitre D' as she took our order for food and placed it and then returned for the drinks order. Drinks were good and quick and the pizza was on the table in less than 15 minutes. Average to good "Godfather" pizza (sauce a bit much I thought) but filled the gap. Prompt attention to the bill and out in plenty of time. Very impressive service in a hectically busy restaurant. Well done. We will return when we have a bit more time.
Friend and I ate here a couple of weeks ago, and were happy with our evening, as we have been once previously. A nice place to go for a catch up over a drink and a meal - we sat outside with the smokers.
The service was a little inconsistent in terms of getting orders taken, and I had to go looking for my missing wine order, however all the staff were pleasant and friendly, helpful, not to mention apologetic at the right time.
I had a side order of chips and aioli as a starter, these came out piping hot and tasty. Thick cut, and with some seasoning. We both ordered pizzas for mains. I don't remember what my friend had, she enjoyed the toppings although thought it a bit oily and the base a bit doughy. My pizza was great. 'Grilled chicken breast, sundried tomato, brie, sweet chilli, topped with the famous pistachio nut sour cream.' It lived up to expectation, and again the next day with the left overs.
Will go again.
We went to Cocopelli last night for my birthday seeing the pizza looked amazing in photos and we wanted to try somewhere new.
We ordered the breads and dips to begin with. Photos online showed about 3 different types of bread and we only got 2 but we were ok with that. The white bread was toasted a bit too much and was very chewy and hard to eat.
The waiter came back to take the bread platter away and we ordered our pizzas (V CCB and the XIII Yes, Dear) and a bowl of chips. Our pizza came about 20 minutes after we got our bowl of chips, so we couldn’t enjoy both together like we had wanted. Half the chips were lovely long fluffy and crisp chips, but the other half looked like off cuts and were different shapes.
The pizza was the WORST pizza we have ever had. There was so much oil and grease on the V CCB that it was pooling on the top of the pizza and also running off the pizza board and onto the table. The venison pizza we ordered also had pools of oil on it, but not as much as the other pizza. Not only was the pizza extremely oily, but both of pizza tasted awful! The venison was dry and chewy, and it actually tasted like fish (We eat venison often and we know what it is meant to taste like).
After only eating one piece of my pizza, and my partner eating only half of his. We waited for someone to come and take the pizza away to put it into boxes for us. We were sitting there for 30-50 minutes and not one of the staff working there even glanced our way. There were barely any customers in Cocopelli either as it was a Monday night, so there was no excuse for the very poor service. We walked up to the counter with the pizza and explained that we had been waiting for a very long time and said the meal was pretty average and we explained why. The young man said a very weak ‘sorry’ and we weren’t even offered a discount.
We will not being going back and it was a horrible end to a lovely birthday. I’ll be sure to warn everyone I know to never go there.
Response from Cocopelli Gourmet Pizza Bar Hi Sophie,
I am disappointed after having discussed this with you yesterday, and accepting a complimentary dinner voucher which has been posted to you, that you feel that this review online was required.

Thank you for your feedback. I'm am very disappointed to hear of your experience at our restaurant. I can assure you that this is not at all acceptable! At Cocopelli, we aim to have a high level of service and great food, but this was not achieved whilst you were dining with us last night. There will be a meeting with all the staff involved in your experience last night to explain this situation to me and to be sure that this never occurs again. I would like to post you out a voucher to apologise, and so you can have a better experience at Cocopelli.
If you could please email me a postal address and I will post it out to you.

Cocopelli has been a favourite for a while but the new owners have really taken it to another level. Tried booking a table for my birthday recently but they were booked to have three other big groups at the same time. However they were extremely helpful and made a real effort to accommodate me. The food is excellent - absolutely love pizza but theirs is my favourite especially the classic margherita. Location is great especially outside in the summer but just as nice by the fire in the winter. Staff are excellent - everyone has a smile and are super helpful.
The whole experience is great. Definitely recommend it!
We had a grab one deal that gave us a medium sized pizza, side salad and fries which was due to expire so booking made and off we went for lunch.
The staff were friendly enough and the food came out quickly. We had a thai chicken pizza which had lovely suttle thai flavours. The salad was tasty and fresh and the bowl of chips huge. We were surprised that a medium pizza with the 2 sides was ample for the two of us.
The other food on the menu looked great so we will have to go back to try something else.
I guess this would be a lovely place to sit outside with a wine and pizza on a sunny afternoon.
We were the first ones to arrive at 11.30am, music very loud but was turned down after a few minutes, the service was quick and pleasant, and it was very warm inside. Maintenance was being done to some booths which was a bit disturbing, should this not have been done before opening, then the Manager/Owners? children arrived and started yelling and screeching for a bit which was very annoying. We didnt have a long wait for our meal which was ok, the Salad and chips were gorgeous, but the lamb on the pizza was very chewy and very sparce. It wasnt a "bad" experience but probably wont be back.
I did'nt expect to be reviewing this restaurant, only weeks after my first visit. However the experience was so satisfying, I felt that I must. Went for lunch yesterday. When a staff member saw me approaching with a wheelchair, he quickly moved to open the entry doors for me. We were promptly shown to a table. Pre meal wines were delivered within 2 minutes. The wine list is extensive. We ordered the a small chicken & brie pizza to share. While waiting for our food, the waitress who served us on our previous visit, recognised us, and came over for a brief chat. She actually remembered what we ordered, including the type of wine. As she departed she thanked us for returning to Cocopellis. Good staff are hard to find! When you've been eating out for a long number of years, it's not difficult to get a feel for the vibes among the staff. I have to say that this seems to be a happy ship, with smiley faces all around. Will return again soon.
Ate here today, just a light lunch. My wife and I shared a Chicken & Brie Pizza (small), with a glass of Pinot Noir each. Total cost $27, which I felt was very reasonable. Pizza was excellent, as was the wine. In spite of being busy, the service was very prompt. Waitress had a good attitude, and made our visit very pleasant.
Was having a nice dinner. Sat down and then had to wait 10 minutes just to get asked for drinks. Also ordered entrees because we knew what we wanted. Was told that we would get asked for mains later. When entrees came out mains followed 5 minutes later. We were barely spoken to until the end when we were asked to leave so they could fit more people in! We weren't even shown or asked if we wanted to see the dessert menu! And I still had a quarter of a glass of wine! We had a $90 bill for two! Think we should have gotten much better service!!!!
My partner and I have been there a few times for Pizza and drinks and have never been disappointed. The service is pretty good and the Pizzas taste great. The breads on the menu are also very tasty. The only thing I could fault the place on is that it is a bit expensive.
Called in on a Thursday night for a quick meal whilst getting a few things in the mall. Was quickly seated, our order was taken 10 mins later and our drinks arrived 2 mins later and our meal about 10 mins after that-very impressed with speed & service. Both our meals-small surf/turf pizza & pasta marinara were very nice. I always order the marinara pasta & this time was definitely better than the last time we came 6 months ago.
Used to go there on a regular basis (~every 2-3 weeks)then had a few not so good experiences but decided to give it another shot last week - again not impressed - restaurant was only 50% full, waiting time too long, table was sticky , food was average & some staff were dressed in tiiight shorts - like they do at the Hooters in the States - maybe for a reason .... Not likely to go back for a long time or until I read reviews that it changed to the better.
Went here on a Thursday night in a group of 5. Waited about 20 minutes for our drinks to arrive (after we asked where they were). When they did come out we were given 3 x pinot when 2 x sauv and 1 pinot was ordered. The error was blamed on the order not flowing through to the bar correctly.... Drinks were taken away and correct ones eventually arrived. Three pasta's were ordered, a fish dish, chicken salad and a pizza bread. The overall consensus of the food was that is was ok, nothing exciting. The pizza bread arrived while we were half way through our dinner. We queried as to why it hadn't arrived earlier and was told "it was on the same order" - which still didn't make reason as to why it didn't come out with the rest of the dishes. Anyway, this was not charged for in the end. Have been here in the past, service has always been slow, but tonight was a new experience. Won't be going back in a hurry, if at all.
Rang up and booked a table before we went then we got there and they hadnt reserved one for us so we sat outside and was given menus. A girl came over to take our drink orders then we had to ask where they were after 15 minutes of waiting. Then had to go inside and order at the bar as she did not come back and got told they could not do a half size pasta and they couldnt do half and half on our pizza they only do it on large. We got a salad instead and it came to the table with no dressing and we found a hair in our chips. The staff were not professional and we will definately not be going back again.
We went for dinner on a busy Friday night. We were sent to the bar to get drink while they quickly arranged a table for us which we had the choice of two tables. Shown to our table.. cheerful service with a smile and yummy food.. Very impressed with the Duty Manager and staff coming from a hospo background
We have been monthly regulars with this restaurant over the last 5 years and never had a complaint. However last time the soup was extremely salty - I had to return it and was asked to choose something else, I choose a small pizza - in the meantime my partner received his seafood pizza - this is a man that loves salt, anyhow his comments were it was a bit over the top for salt but carried on eating - my small pizza arrived, way too salty again but was too embarrassed to mention it - when the wooden pizza board was cleared from table the oil and fat had totally soaked through the thick board and had pooled over the table - and that had never happened before either. After a few days I decided to ring thinking that most restaurants would prefer feed back instead of complaining to every one else, twice I contacted them and was ignored. Sadly we will never go back.
On arrival at Cocopelli's we were greeted and told to find a table - we chose a booth and proceeded to view the menu... all three of our group noticed our menu's were filthy - sticky, dirty and one even had hair stuck to it. The table was dirty, which we brought to the attention of the waiter - he proceeded to clean the table, and take our drink orders which were delivered promptly - that was the last we saw of him. We waited a long period of time before asking one of the counter staff to please come and take our orders. Our group chose two pizzas, and a ceasar salad. The pizza's were quite good, however the chicken on the pizza was extremely dry. The ceasar salad was also a dissapointment, with browning wilted lettuce. Having dined here before and being pleased, we will not be returning to Cocopelli's. We were not after five star service, but filthy tables and menu's, plus average food is not worthy of a return trip.
we popped in to have a quick snack before a movie. we had to wait a little for someone to come greet us, but served pretty quickly. we had the antipasto, always our favourite item o try and it was very good. good size and didn't take too long, we did need to ask for more drinks but happy anyhoo!
We tried a few things from the menu - a couple of burgers, pizza and a steak. All in all was okay. The steak was perfectly cooked to my requested medium rare but the yorkshire pudding that came with my steak wasn't like any other yorkshire pudding I have eaten (and not in a good way) and the potatoes looked a bit grey. The staff were really busy with the All Blacks playing but were extremely polite and friendly.
We visit Cocopelli's on a semi regular basis and are treated to a good dining experience. We especially like the the generous serving of wedges, sour cream and chilli sauce and the pizza's are consistently of a high quality. We prefer the more traditional thinner style pizza base and the choice of toppings is quite wide without going over the top. We regularly ask for additional kalamata olives on our pizzas and they have always been happy to oblige. You can ask for a 'doggy bag/box' without fear of being looked down upon. We can confidently go to Cocopelli's and consistently get a good quality feed which means we are happy to take visitors there.
The service is usually quite good and friendly with the odd exception of slow service. The last time we went they misplaced the main pizza order but were very apologetic and gave us a voucher to the value of the pizza to recompense our delayed meal without us having to say a word. We are more than happy to give our patronage to businesses who recognise that sometimes things don't go as planned, or as well as they liked and are prepared to accept that and improve the experience for the customer. I wish more restaurants would do this.
To sum up, good consistent quality, pub style food with a pleasant atmosphere and friendly staff.
Stopped in here before an early movie. Told the waiter that we only had 40 minutes and he assured us that would be enough. We grabbed an outside seat and enjoyed the afternoon sun,. Our water and beers were there almost before we were! We made a quick decision based on the recommendation of the cheerful waiter, and shared a very tasty pizza. It came out quickly and we were on our way in time for the movie.
I gave bad for the Service as it was soooo slow and that is a complete pain when you have a child with you as they don't quite understand why you have to wait so long. We did get a sorry for the time in the end but would hate to see them they they are really busy.
But my main problem with this restaurant was the After Service. I clearly stated on my pizza no Garlic as I do have an reaction to it, Well, they did not listen and within 30 min of going home, I was very very ill, Ended up having the next day of work due to it. I rang the restaurant and the first lady did not take me seriously. I then managed to speak to the duty manager, who said sorry and said they would send out a gift. Well that was 3 months ago and still waiting. Huge shame as I am now telling my story to all and with the summer season coming on, would have gone back but feel its just not worth it as there are other restaurants there to go to. Nice Pizza and we used to go there all the time but I cannot afford to get sick.
What a great place! Very cosy right from the moment you walk in with the fire place going inside to the left of the entrance. Very casual and funky decor. Try the pizza with chicken (real, not processed.. YUM), sundried tomatoes and brie or the pizza with pieces of succulent lamb which I think is called the Montenara but can't quite remember. The pizza came with some kind of hazelnut/sourcream in the middle, really liked it. You can also order half/half toppings on large pizzas which is what we did. Just absolutely delicious, lots of cheese and perfect base. Chicken wings with honey soy sauce and sesame seeds are also tasty. The staff seemed a bit too casual and a little bit flustered, maybe understaffed through a busy lunch period? Either way I would come back because I really enjoyed the food and it's a great place to relax on a lazy afternoon with a beer. ;)
Went here a few weeks ago for a quick dinner, the service was terrible. Walked in and was told to go sit over there somewhere with a wave of the hand. Orders were takin quickly though, ordered a main then asked about a starter as I was starvin and saw a lot of groups waiting for their food was told not to bother as main would be ready first, did not place order next thing I know 2 starters show up at our table, said we hadnt ordered but took one since it was there. Mains came not long after and were quite nice, nothing exciting. Paid and left as was in a hurry, next day reliased I had been overcharged so rung and complained was told to come in, did this and was just handed money back no apology or anythin and this was from the manager. This was my third visit and always expect it to be better than it turns out to be.
Went here on a Tuesday night for a quick bite to eat, was greeted by a friendly waiter (brandon?) and took us to a booth. We had dined here before. Again, the service was very good, without being too intrusive. I had a small seafood pizza and my partner had a chicken one. both were good and as described on the menu. we shared a chocolate mud cake for desert which again was very good. We were left alone after dinner and desert to chat without being pushed to leave. A good dining experience.
Went here during a break in work before we re-opened for the hectic Girl's Night Out. Staff were kind enough to take our orders over the phone and have them pretty much ready when we got there since we were on a tight schedule. Hade the Montonara pizza which was divine. Will definitely be coming back for the excellent variety of pizzas and some of the pastas looked interesting too. Service was good, not always hovering, but offered more drinks, etc. Overall a great experience.
Fantastic place for a cheap good quality night out, great for a reasonably large group too. Pizza was great! great to start off with before heading over to the Fox and Ferret for drinks or to the movies.
I love the food here, but would consider this more a place of a simple meal out, I wouldn't come here for a nice occasion. Friendly staff, fantastic pizza :) The atmosphere is nice, perhaps a little overdone, and sometime the lighting is a little dim, but good place for a night out :) Excellent for dinner before/after movies!
Yeeeeea Bad COL! Man i would have to say after the pizzas we had here last night that they are the best ive had in christchurch so far! altho i still have 2 more establishments to try. (sml $14.5 med $22.5 lge $27.5) Hard on the wallet but easy on the stomach, save ya cookies k.
since my last review of this place wasn't that flash I wasn't overly keen to go back there again but since "that" review i have been there on about 3 separate occasions (its really close to home ok) and feel its about time I set the record straight.
this time its good... no make that really good... service is excellent..I'm still not overly keen on the enviroment but i can live with that.
so i apologise if i've put anyone off going there, but hey its seems to have come good so get going, have a pizza, they are not cheap but they are good.
Went there on a cold Monday night , the fifst impressions were great , immediate welcome , warm and inviting .Staff very attentive and prompt . I enjoyed my pasta but partner dissappointed with hers , luke warm . After such a great start the service just dissappeared . No more offers of drink refills , not offered the dessert menu or coffee . We went next door to Fox & Ferrett for drssert and coffee . Will not go back in a hurry
mmmm Yummy pizza ,one of the best ones ive had in yonkers & i mean it! ,these guys know how to pile up the quality non processed toppings unlike other unnamed chains,ok we were in a hurry for a movie and they took a bit long annnd the prices arent going to feed the budgit minded ,but hey still a nice friendly place. May i suggest to always allow new places to settle in the 1st couple of months before you shoot them down, the hospitality industry is getting very competitve!
I dined at Cocopelli early last month and had one of the best pizzas I've ever tasted! I found the service to be quite friendly and prompt (they picked a winner by suggesting I try the chicken wings for a starter). I enjoyed the casual environment and thought that the decor had been done very well. Overall, I had a great time in Cocopelli and will definately go back.
situated in what used to be the La Porchetta restaurant (that mysteriously disappeared over night???)...which was a neat place to go, but as for Cocopelli.
The menu is BORING... the food at best could be described as being of a very amateur quality...the service slack at its best...the decor trys to hard to be "cool" but ends up looking naff and sounds reverberate in there like a bell (can't hear yourself think).
And the prices are by no means cheap.
ok for a pizza and a cold beer with the lads if you're all cashed up, otherwise avoid.
