We booked several months ahead as we were going to see Fleetwood Mac and thought it will be busy. We confirmed our booking earlier in the week.
On arrival it was busy but some tables empty. Our booking was there. We were seated upstairs despite there being empty tables down. I was sort of backed in to a cupboard like space behind a wall with a storage area of sorts behind me. My partner facing. We were directly above the kitchen. No view of anything much except heads below and as expected we started to get hot with heat from the kitchen.
We shared a Brawn entrée which was well presented, tasty, and with good accompaniments which we enjoyed very much. The serving was more than adequate for 2.
Our waitress was French and unable to answer our questions about the menu with clarity. We both chose fish. My Partner had Blue Cod pan fried and served with Baby Potatoes, Brocolli and Carrots with a side of Tartare and Lemon. Overall the meal was well cooked but flavourless and needed some seasoning.
I chose the trio of fish and was unable to get from the waitress info as to crumbed battered or pan fried. Eventually told it was pan fried. Served with Holandaise, corgettes, carrots and smashed potatoes. The meals were initially served to us wrong way round. My partner getting mine and me hers. She found shell fish on her plate to which she is very allergic ( and pointed out when we ordered). This prompted a return to the kitchen of her meal which really should have been mine and then back to the table and a swap around by which time things were getting cool.
Despite this we were hot with the heat from below and told our waitress who said she would open a window. She never did.
My fish was cooked but also was without much flavouring. Being a fisherman who lives with an amazing cook we agreed we could do much better at home. Overall it was a big let down. Also my smashed spuds needed a lot more smashing it was just chunks of potato with skin in places.
On paying the bill I said to the maître De it was very hot and that this had distracted us greatly from our meal. I was more or less told I should have told her and she would have moved us. I told her I had said so to our waitress. She then just walked away.
Didn't even get a thanks for paying the bill.
Not impressive overall I am afraid.
