Lunched here on a drizzly day and it felt welcoming on entering. Service was attentive without being obtrusive - meals arrived in good time, mine being the corn fritters with bacon while my companion had the chicken and bacon sandwich which she claimed was the best sandwich ever! Fritters absolutely full of corn, maybe a little heavy, but delicious all the same. Prior to arrival of the (ciabatta) sandwich, the waitress offered my companion a steak knife ("as ciabatta can be difficult to cut) - nice helpful touch. Presentation good and we really appreciated chutney, sour cream and vinaigrette, placed in mini dishes/jug on the side of our plates - allowing us to control these additions. Both meals were generous, healthy and full of such fresh ingredients, and were absolutely delicious! No fries in sight - Yay! (Unless you order a small side of fries of course) Well done ...we'll be back! (Score based on not experiencing Toilets, Dessert or "Child-Friendly")
Called in here for lunch with my mother a couple of weeks ago - a 92nd birthday treat for her!
My Mum's appetite isn't huge, so she thought she'd order an entree, but she ended up with fish and chips (fish of the day was tarakihi); there were two reasonably sized fillets, properly cooked in a very nice beer batter which was not at all greasy and a fair serving of chips that may or may not have been hand-cut, accompanied by a small dish of tartare sauce and one of ketchup. So much for a light meal!! Having said that, she wolfed it all down apart from a few chips and a bit of fish that I had confiscated.
My lunch was a big breakfast, with bacon, scrambled egg, tomatoes and mushrooms with a couple of chunks of toasted ciabatta; the highlight however was a humungous hunk of home-made hash brown about 3cm thick! Delicious.
Staff were attentive and friendly without being intrusive. Prices appeared reasonable, although we didn't have dessert of coffee, my Mum's appetite being what it is.
Certainly a venue marked down for a return visit with people who have decent appetites!
