Proud to be awarded Restaurant of the Year, New or Returning Establishment of the Year, and The Press - People's Choice Award at the Christchurch Hospitality Awards 2014.
Dux Dine is a reflection of the past but a move into the future. A contemporary feeling, with fresh local seafood and vegetarian delights, Dux Dine has plenty to offer. Our delicious New Zealand wines and Dux craft beers are certainly a crowd pleaser.
Dux Dine is situated in a historic turn-of-the-century Villa that was originally the Station Masters House for the Riccarton Railway.
The villa has been extensively but sympathetically reworked to provide a variety of spaces to be enjoyed whether it be an intimate candlelit dinner for two, a large group celebration at one of the huge Kauri tables, grabbing a morning coffee to go or at the breakfast bar. Dux Dine has many reminiscences of the iconic Dux de Lux yet new and fresh while remaining comfortably familiar. Many of the old favourites can be seen on the menu as well as exciting fresh new foods and ideas.
Dux Dine offers many setting options, from relaxing in a lounge, formal table setting to sitting in our sun drenched court yard. Whether it be a small group, special lunch or dinner, corporate event, product launch or company celebration we can cater for your needs.
As a company we are passionate about supporting the local businesses around us. The seafood served in the restaurant is frequently sourced from Akaroa, Stuart Island and the West and East Coast.
With the ever changing environment, Dux Dine is pleased to say that we are environmentally friendly. Coffee cups, take away containers, and menus are all recycled or recyclable.

It was a baking hot lunchtime and we were hungry and thirsty. After popping in the front door we waited for someone to notice us. After several minutes we were greeted and given menus and pointed to the outdoors to find a table. There is a huge outdoor area with lots of covered tables, but it was busy so we ended up sitting in the sun. Water was delivered and we checked the menus. After about 15 minutes we moved to a recently vacated table in the shade, migrating their dirty plates to our sunny table and settling in to their vacant shady spot. And then we waited, and waited. Waitresses were going to and fro, delivering water and food and menus, and having been seated for almost half an hour we finally got our order taken by grabbing a passing waitress. Phew.
I ordered the beetroot pizza, which came with huge and tasty chunks of beetroot on it. I would only suggest that the chunks be made slightly smaller in future, otherwise it was a tasty, and different pizza. My companion had the calamari and a side of fries. Side? It was huge, enough to feed an army!
We finished our food and I noticed that the table we had moved the previous occupants dishes to was still stacked with those same dishes. In fact, during our lunch I saw about 4 tables leave and none were cleaned before we finished our food.
When our food had arrived we also ordered another drink, which was delivered, but wasn't the drink we ordered. Too hot to care we drank it anyway. Close but no banana.
We paid and left with the sun still burning down, and the inside and outside still packed with patrons. A popular place, but service needs serious some attention.

I dined here just recently with others. This is the second time I’ve dined at Dux Dine, however last time was an evening meal and this time it was for lunch.
Parking can be an issue, they do have a car park however its normally full. But they do offer off-street parking and a lot of restaurants don’t, so I shouldn’t complain.
It was pleasant weather and we were able to sit outside at a table with large umbrellas. The shade was good for awhile however we must’ve looked rather silly as we kept moving out away from the table because underneath it was quite cold, it would’ve been quite good if we could’ve closed the umbrella or something.
I was the only one at the table not drinking wine and felt a bit forgotten drinks-wise. I waited for quite some time after ordering my second drink and was finally told the waitress had forgotten about my order. It was a large celebration and I was over-indulging but after my third glass of Jack Daniels I was advised that they had run out (but then they did find enough for one more glass). This close to Christmas I thought they would’ve been better stocked. The wine drinkers were fine because they could pour their own drinks as several bottles of wine were at the table, however there was always quite a wait to get the attention of wait staff to order a drink for myself and then for it to arrive.
Food was excellent; I had the pumpkin arancini balls for entree, spanakopita for main and lemon tart for dessert. The wait staff were very accommodating to my request of slight changes to the main and dessert. Everyone else at the table was also very pleased with their meals.
All and all not a bad experience. The staff are friendly and polite, the outdoor area was a lovely place to sit (excluding the issue with the umbrellas). The gardens are well kept and all areas appeared to be clean and tidy.

I come here occasionally to sate beer and seafood cravings. This time, I just had to have ceviche. Despite being a walk-in on a busy Thursday night, I was seated immediately and didn't have to wait for anything. Service was impeccable. No questions asked at all when I wanted my ceviche, which is served as a medium-sized salad, mixed up a bit to make it a complete main course. It was well crafted with gurnard made more exciting by a very good balance of lime and herbs. I wouldn't have minded a bit more spice, but my palate tends to run on the hotter end of what's acceptable to your average kiwi.
I needed a run-through of their different tap beers as it's been a while, and I got accurate, precise information without any attempt at swaying my opinion one way or the other. As a woman who likes beer, I often find that waitstaff will assume I don't need or want to know about anything that isn't fruity and mild, so they'll try to draw my attention back to whatever option they've deemed most ladylike. Dux know their stuff and don't try on any of that nonsense.
It did get very noisy in there as the evening went on, which meant I stopped short of ordering dessert and coffee. I'm sure had I been in a group I would have been right into the swing of things, but it was a bit much for my solo dining self.

It's been a couple of years since I reviewed here, although not that long since I last ate here. Group of us dined on Wednesday night and all really enjoyed our meals. Before most of the group arrived the guy who had seated us came over to tell us who our waitress would be and explained it was her first night. She was lovely and there were no major problems, although I'm sure she'll only improve with experience. There were a couple of minor muck ups but that was probably to do with the noise and her accent (or was it ours?). Anyway when my gluten free pizza came out it looked very like the other pizza at our table. Just to be sure the order was placed correctly I caught the attention of the guy and he went off to double check. He came back and assured me many times over that it was 100% right. The pizza was yummy - lots of prawns that were cooked nicely and a tasty base with a nice amount of bite from the chilli and feta. I was far too full to have a dessert but the others were very pleased with their choices, especially a citrus tart. Once again I was surprised not to be charged any extra for my pizza, so at $19 I would score value for money highly as well. Probably one of my favourite places, so no question I'll be back!

We had a family dinner here. We were treated with respect from the moment we arrived, until we left. Our waitress was brilliant. She was prompt, as was the food delivery. We had a great selection, and even my husband, who would usually order a lerge steak, enjoyed the Seafood Chowder and Fish of the Day dish. He did not go hungry and was very impressed.
The prices were very reasonable for the quality of the food. We will be back.

Table of five for Master Bing's birthday - where do the years go? Car parking a bit of a hassle as the car-park was full and Riccarton Road was parked out as there are quite a few eateries thereabouts.
Lovely, well-lit inviting house converted to a restaurant. We sat in the covered-in veranda. Very quiet out there with almost no noise from the inner restaurant unless the door was opened. Very prompt, courteous and professional attention from the waitress with water on the table immediately and an explanation of the day's specials. The menu was inviting (remembering it has no meat) but in fact we all chose variations of the specials/fish of the day. Started with a West Coast whitebait fritter - very tasty "omelette" style fritter with a good helping of whitebait and pieces of crunchy garlic bread (a little oily but OK). Fish of the day (terakihi)with a garlic sauce for me and with lime and coriander for others. Well presented, good size serving with polenta chips. Tasty. Others concurred. Had a bottle of Villa Maria Barrique Fermented Gisborne Chardonnay 2012 ($68) with the meal - big, oaky (duh) and fruity. Nice touch - I was asked if I wanted it chilled (no) or room temperature (yes please); can't ever remember being asked that before and it made a really positive impression and meant that the wine was immediately drinkable rather than warming it up in the glass. Skipped dessert as we were off for cake at home. Overall bill excluding wine was ~$225 for 5 adults so good value for money. We will definitely be back again.

Stopped in for a weekend brunch with friends. We ordered tea and coffees (several in fact) which came out in good time and were fairly good. The menu is a nice shake-up from the usual cafe brunch offerings, and I was tempted by the non-standard options so ordered the huevos rancheros. Others grabbed eggs on toast and pea & halloumi fritters. The place was nearly full and we were happily catching up, so any wait we experienced wasn't noticed at all.
Food was delivered and looked goof. The eggs on toast were tiny, but the rest of us had groaning plates loaded with tasty food. My dish was fresh and tasty, and the fritters got rave reviews too.
Overall it was a very nice brunch, and a place I'd return to without hesitation.

We attended this restaruant before a show and had to be finished by a certain time. The staff were very obliging and made sure our meals were served in adequate time. The blue cod dish is superb. A generous serving of fish with delicious vegetables and a sauce to die for. Would have loved to have dessert but time did not allow. We will be back again! Our only negative comment is that the waitress needed more schooling on the menu options. She couldn't answer our simple questions and didn't even know the fish of the day.

There is so much choice on the menu!
Went to the Dux Dine the other night with two girl friends. Loved the old villa and also loved the turquoise booths. I went along thinking I would order fish but the vegetarian options were so enticing that we each ordered one and put them in the middle to share. The spanikopita was superbas was the pea and hallumi ffritters. The girl serving was charming and efficient. All round a great experience. I will be back. Thanks Ange for the recommendation.

Had a casual lunch here on Saturday...it was a bit of a last minute thing before my cousin had to go to work at the hospital....Dux Dine was chosen purely for closeness to the Public, in fact, probably couldn't find anywhere closer. This was my first visit to the new premises and I liked very much. I was first to arrive and so was given the opportunity of choosing my own table....too breezy outside....too claustrophobic under the plastic.....inside just right! Once seated the waiting staff soon had menus on hand and a flat white which was very good. My cousin arrived and it was eyes down looking at the menu. I was initially a little taken aback at the prices for a casual lunch.....whatever happened to being able to choose some salads and some nice chunky bread...Frecklewoodnz....it's called progress! Cousin chose quinoa salad with beetroot and grilled halloumi....I the tortilla, beans, jalapeño, scrambled eggs, Swiss cheese and avocado. The scrambled eggs were the best I have ever tasted.....they were delicious. I enjoyed my meal.....$18. Cuzzie thought there could have been some more 'green' in the salad. We shared a narrow slice of raisin and fig cake....mmmmm can't say I would be rushing to replicate that particular recipe.....it did have figs and raisins and ummmm not a lot else. I always order another coffee and regret it.....never the same quality as the first and as soon as the coffee was put down, I could tell...the crema shot all over the place! Overall a pretty decent feed at $25.50 each. The premises are spacious and there is a nice feel about the place. Service is swift with a smile. I sure would love to see some of the old salads back though!

Response from Dux Dine
Hello Frecklewoodnz
Thank you for taking the time to review your recent experience with us here at Dux Dine
We do still have the salads and deli items (including the chunky bread) available on weekdays (Monday to Friday)as we found that this area was not getting utilized during the weekends and our wastage was high and not sustainable. We are playing with the idea of retaining these options however changing the service style at table service with these salads listed on the menu so guests can sit and enjoy the company.
On a nice sunny day I do recommend you come along and try the outside or in the veranda area where we role the sides up, weather permitting.
Sorry your second coffee let us down as this is usually one of our many strengths.
We hope to see you back with us some time in the near future
Yours sincerely

lunch here recently, we shared the beetroot pizza and a haloumi, pumpkin and quinwa salad. The pizza was unusual, I love beetroot, but I don't think this worked very well with the other ingredient's, it had feta, pinenuts' mozzarella and rocket. The base was soft and could not be eaten with your hands, had to use a knife and fork. It just lacked a spark. The salad desperately lacked seasoning and really tasted of nothing, the quinwa had no flavouring, pieces of pumpkin, rocket and also pinenuts. The service was attentive and we enjoyed the outside area. It was surprising how quiet the place was for such a beautiful day. Would happily come for a drink and chips but would not hurry back for the food.

We had a grab one voucher for entree, main and wine and were looking forward to seeing what options would be available to us when using this voucher - the entire menu was which was great.
We were welcomed by friendly staff who advised us of the specials for the day.
Our party had the calamari for an entrée which was crispy on the outside and soft in the middle and a huge portion. The other entrée was the cauliflower and 3 cheese croquettes - 5 of them and all very tasty but almost a main size portion.
For mains we had the cannelloni (possibly would be nicer without the butter sauce), blue cod served with potato gratin and fish of the day with lemon, herbs and garlic and polenta chips. The fish mains were delightful - the fish was well cooked and the veges / salad was sufficient.
We had a creme brulee and lemon tart for dessert - both were pronounced as wonderful although we questioned if the raspberry sorbet went with the lemon tart - the diner would have preferred cream or yoghurt. For the 2 ladies we shared a birthday cake martini cocktail instead of dessert - yum (pity the recipe is a secret). The wine list was extensive.
A great meal and can't wait to return.

Dined with other half having rarely escaped the clutches of a one and three year olds. Quickly welcomes and seated with water glasses filled. We ordered the Prawns and flat breads with dips entrees. Both were very tasty and surprisingly filling. Mrs had the Blue Cod main and I had my favourite main, Salmon. Cod beautiful and my Salmon was excellent. Carrot and parsnip was a very good match. Portion sizes were bang on. I really enjoyed the dark beer as well. Can't fault anything and will return soon. Many thanks.

Dined here today and was pleasantly surprised, we didn't know were we were going we just picked a place from the net.
Loved the decor, and seating, waiter was attentive and informative and new well what was being served, he even asked if we had any allergies to anything.
We had the blue cod special and pasta both were outstanding.
The waiter came back to ask if we were enjoying our meals and top up our drinks.
Will be coming back for sure.

First time eater, but after the terrible review some months ago felt I had to come. The old Dux in the Arts Centre was cosmopolitan, flamboyant, and devil may care, and the new Dux is none of these. However it is not such a bad thing. It is far more formal and ordered but still loads of fun and absolutely chocker (Thursday night), and has moved away from a salad buffet for penniless students to closer to fine dining with a fish and vegetarian emphasis, and better quality as well. Parking is an absolute nightmare, but once there we were seated in the enclosed verandah. Service was polite and helpful, full explanations given and drinks appeard promptly. Follow-up throught the meal was good without being pushy. I, in my attempt to be more adventurous, had the terakihi with moroccan spice - perfectly cooked, well presented, just missing some flavour - a little light on the salt maybe. Likewise the flavour of the traditional cheesecake - quite edible, but not all that exciting, possibly made elsewhere. Someone else though had the sticky pudding, and declared it the best. Coffee was one of the best in a long time. Would gladly go back again, and value for money 8.

So much better than the old Dux! Went on a Monday night for my son's 10th birthday. So quite late for two school age kids. The food was really good indeed - although the haloumi and pea fritters needed a little "something" in my opinion. Bread and dips were divine to start with, soup great, and the sticky toffee pudding - fantastic.
Our waitress was wonderful. I have not had such good service in a very long time. Professional, friendly, not over bearing. Only service point was it was a bit confusing on where you pay and whether you waited for the bill or not. But very minor in the scheme of things.
Not so fussed on the old villa decor - but nicely done if you like that sort of thing. Was perfect on a cold winter night, but might not be so good in summer, although they have a large verandah which was covered in.
I have tried to go before at lunchtime but have not been able to get a park anywhere close and so have moved on to other things - was fine at night. I also noted a box of toys for smaller children, and there was another family with children seated next to us.
All in all, a great experience and I will be back.

Went in for dinner with family, was an interesting experience.
They've done a brilliant job with the decor, it was lovely. The food was acceptable, but beyond that there were issues.
We stood a while before being seated, which wasn't horrible but a mild pain. After we were seated, the menu's arrived and they took our drinks order. Which arrived reasonably promptly, and our dinner order was taken after that. Sadly at this point the service fell down.
After the initial order we were never asked for drinks again, and besides the food arriving and a slight glance from the waitress later on we were left alone.
We were in the booth next to the bar, and I do have to say it appears they may not have thought things through when designing this part of the venue. There was a rather large party in waiting for their table, and the noise coming from them in the bar meant we were unable to talk to each other. We had to yell to communicate, which did ruin a good part of the evening for us.
The food was acceptable, but nothing brilliant. A little bit bland, the chips were over done although the fish of the day was nicely cooked, but the sauce was over powering.
I don't mind, and would head back at if asked to, but probably wouldn't make a booking myself.

As having promised the "struck down" DJC reviewer we have now been to see for ourselves. Overall a pleasant experience all be it on not a particularly busy Sunday evening. As the main complaint of that review appeared to centre on the service we paid particular attention to that aspect. There were times when to rate higher than good, which it was and with friendly smiles, perhaps plates could have been whisked away slightly quicker.
The two entrees of seafood chowder, with 2 pieces of garlic bread and crumbed mushrooms were both enjoyed. I did realise halfway through the soup that perhaps I should not have ordered the fish hotpot, as suspected it was almost another soup. I did enjoy it however, the two shrimps were quickly dismantled after having obviously enjoyed luxuriating in the broth with the blue cod and mussels. The quesadilla, corn with pumpkin, was perhaps over corned and slightly bland, that is however a personal taste for this particular eater.
The glass of ginger tom beer was great, just how I remembered it from years gone by. I was, however, not asked whether I would like a further one, nor were we asked whether we would like coffee. Would think on a busy night they would need someone to regularly empty the bins in the toilet, was surprised how full they were at this early stage of the evening.
So, sorry DJC, I feel that for whatever reason your visit must have coincided with a particularly bad hair day which luckily does not appear to have been replicated on any of the many reviewers since that time.

I've only visited Dux dine once.
The food was amazing a great place to try different types of fish and vege food.
I really enjoyed dining there. Service is great and staff are really friendly.
The only disappointment was the price but i guess great things do cost a bit.
I still highly recommend it

What an excellent night out. I'm not from Christchurch so rely on reviews to find places to eat. I found this one on Neat Places. It was so busy they didn't have room to seat us inside but put us underneath heaters and provided blankets.
This was the first time ever I've enjoyed an oyster! Service was fantastic and so was all the food.
Highly recommend!

We were desperate for somewhere to take our overseas visitor for brunch last Sunday and luckily Dux Dine sprang to mind. It too was busy but we were offered a table outside under a heater. It had been raining but luckily stopped for the time we were there. Service was attentative without being pushy. We all ordered the smoked salmon eggs benedict. Hubby thought the salmon was too strong but that was just personal taste as I loved mine. Nice hot, strong coffee. The only down side was the confusing system for paying. Lots of people waiting to be seated, pay and even order. This is my second visit, having been for a girls night a couple of months ago. It's not the Dux as we know and loved it but is a lovely make do in the meantime. Will be back again for sure.

I was very happy to be heading back to Dux Dine so soon after last visit, this time with a smaller group. We chose to sit outside again as we had our baby with us and it gave us room to have the buggy for him to sleep in. Inside it looked packed but even though we didn't have a booking we were made to feel very welcome and the service was fantastic throughout. We shared mains of massaman curry, spanikopita, quesadilla and the pea and haloumi fritters. The curry and the spanikopita were the 2 standout dishes. I think sharing the meals is the way to go as the portions are very generous and perhaps a bit overwhelming if you were trying to tackle a whole one on your own. For dessert we shared the brulee, cheesecake, sorbet and sticky date. All really good. This is defintely my new favourite place. The food, service and environment are so enjoyable that even my steak loving husband is happy here.

Just had a really pleasant casual dinner with our staff at Dux Dine. We were sitting outside in the courtyard and the setting is lovely with trees, flowers and a vege garden. I ordered a selection of pizzas, margerhita, funghi and a beetroot one, and other dishes for us all to share. The food was all very tasty and good value casual dining fare. The main dishes on the menu all sounded good too and I would be keen to go back another time to try them. The service was really good and staff very friendly, only comment would be that the drinks seemed to take a bit long to arrive but not a big deal. Certainly receiving attentive table service when we were sitting outside made a nice change and the outside heaters were turned on for us once it started to cool off a bit and they really did give off some heat! We would have liked to stay longer but we had to take our baby home. Thanks for a lovely dinner Dux Dine, we will be back!

Booked for lunch on a beautiful sunny Sunday and were seated outside under one of the many sun umbrellas which was great. Iced water was brought to the table immediately and we were left to look at the menus. After approx 15 minutes no one had been back to take our drink or food orders so a member of our group approached a member of staff and they immediately came over and took our orders.
We waited a while and were happy chatting and catching up. A member of staff approached our table and apologized for the delay and explained the pizza order was holding up our meals but wouldn't be too far away. He offered us a complimentary loaf of garlic bread to enjoy in the meantime. Within a few minutes our meals arrived which were enjoyed by everyone.
Two fish of the day meals, haloumi salad and a seafood salad. All meals were well presented and very tasty.
Good service and nice to kept informed by staff re a slight delay over our meals.

This was our first visit to Dux Dine, previously Dux De Lux, since its relocation and what a wonderful experience. The restaurant is situated in a beautiful wooden villa and although looks relatively small from the outside, has a very spacious interior with numerous different dining areas. The restaurant is tastefully decorated and we loved that they had incorporated some of the villa's original features into the new design. Outside is a spacious dining area, which would be perfect for an al fresco lunch. Now to the food....delicious. Dux Dine specializes in seafood and vegetarian food and has a good selection of dishes including salads. We chose the mushroom croquettes as a starter, whilst our friend had the calamari. Both were delicious. For the main course my husband and I opted for the fresh fish dish which is served in various ways. Mine was pan fried in garlic, lemon and herbs whilst my husband had the lime and coriander crusted option. Both came with polenta fries, which can be replaced with potato fries, and salad. The fish melted in the mouth... Our friend had the caesar salad and pronounced it delicious. I would have loved to have sampled one of their deserts, but sadly we were full, so have promised ourselves that we will go back another time to sample the desert menu. We found the prices very reasonable and the portions were a good size. A special mention must go to the wonderful waitress we had. She was so enthusiastic about the food and was very friendly and efficient. I would highly recommend it and am looking forward to dining there again.

We went for my birthday dinner last Saturday and were very pleasantly surprised. Dux Dine is on our list of preferred restaurants now. The selection of food items will suit most people and the wine list and pricing of wine by the glass is very reasonable. The Green Lip Mussels were exceptional.

Like everyone else I am partial to a cold glass of beer on a hot day, avec barbeque, or without. The intense guttural relief of beer in gullet cannot be explained in mere words, rather by primordial, Stone Age grunts, deeply expressive sighs of satisfaction and the mangled, highly spiritual notes of post-deglutitious paeans.
A romantic notion perhaps, but isn’t that what drives us all to seek out the pleasures of the flesh, in particular those delights offered by way of food and wine…or cold beer?
Richard Sinke and his team may very well have understood these sentiments when deciding to revive something of the spirit of the legendary Dux by sniffing out an old villa in Riccarton just ripe for renovation. With the careful addition, into the culinary cauldron, of a spoonful of style, considered use of indoor space, welcome parking, ample outdoor dining spaces and a menu that works, the owners have managed to draw the crowds and invite favourable comment thus far.
As with most cafes and restaurants of note in the west at the present time you need to call in advance, book, make a reservation, all six of one and half a dozen of the other to forewarn the management that you and your curmudgeonly lot are wanting to impose your blessed selves on the other diners. Seating, morning, noon and night, is at a premium.
Reminiscent of former times you still must queue to place your order from the blackboard menus, pay and retreat to your table. The waitress who brought our drinks over stayed with us, so to speak, throughout the meal, accepting reorders of drinks and additional food. It worked well and exempted us from having to jostle for position in the long queue which would have been an irritating inconvenience and possibly even a huge disincentive to return. We were not singled out for preferential treatment as a flock of costumed waitresses attended to the random food and drink needs of all the tables, as much as I could see.
A cold Dux Lager was a fine start to my dining experience and, “because I’m worth it”, I championed the cause by having a second; after all it was a hot afternoon.
While others at my table picked away at Semolina flat bread, Caesar salads and fried calamari I gently spooned in luxurious mouthfuls of seafood chowder, scooping out the delicacy of the two small clams floating on top and savouring the rich consistency of the broth.
Glasses of Coopers Creek Syrah, with hints of spice and modesty of body, were enjoyed by all and certainly complemented the Massaman Curry I had for a main, providing a pleasurable flow to the afternoon and loosening up the tongues of my four scintillatingly charming guests. The curry itself, resplendent with spiced tofu, baby carrots, cucumber, bean sprouts, broccoli, cauliflower and more, sat comfortably with those of us who had it, notwithstanding the heat of the day.
Whether you’re in shorts or a skirt, this smart/casual restaurant is a place to consider if you’re looking to dine with colleagues or friends. Like so many of the former inner city eating houses that are reopening in slightly changed form, Dux Dine and its operators bring to your table years of experience, tried and tested food options and a relaxed sense of style. It works…

Had dinner with a friend on Saturday night. I had reserved our table the day before and received a phone call on the day of our booking confirming and reminding us to be on time (as they give tables away if you are 15 minutes late, fair enough) and a good place to park - I thought this was good service. We arrived just before our 6:45pm booking and were seated in the outside covered area. It was lovely and sunny and beautiful, relaxed surroudings.
My friend and I both ordered varieties of the fish - mine the lime-crusted oven-baked fish and my friend the lemon pan-fried version. I had a rose wine and she a cider and our meals came out pretty promptly. The fish was served with polenta fries and salad - amazingly delicious! Definitely recommend this dish. Our plates were cleared as soon as we had finish eating and I felt a little time pressure that they wanted our table for the next sitting. We skipped dessert (they then brought the bill) and we went and had an after-drink elsewhere. Anyway, the food was fantastic and I'd definitely go back. You can use your Entertainment card here too for 25% off.

We all loved the old building but found it a bit on the noisy side to easily hear each other. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive. Could have kept the water glasses filled or a jug on the table. The mains were a good size and beautifully presented though we woudn't order 2 of the 4 again. The mussels main was not special enough for a main and would have been better as a starter. The aubergine main was lacking in pizzazz, interesting flavours - I would have been disappointed if I hadn't been sharing my friend's delicious, light, tasty pea and halloumi fritters, they were great. The lime and corriander crusted fish with polenta fries was also very good. A desert menu would have been helpful as there were so many to choose from. Based on the mains size we were expecting larger deserts. The lime cheesecake was our favourite. The toilets are bright and nicely decorated and would have been good to have been cleaned and paper towel bin emptied. Yahoo for paper towels instead of air drier and cloth towels would be even better. We would come back to eat here again.

We popped in for a quick lunch just a day or two after they opened.Located in a delightful old villa that used to be the home of the Riccarton Station Master, the place has an almost feminine feel to it and its hard to imagine a group of guys having a big lunch there. But the gardens are a delight and a stage area exists over in a corner for some live music at a later stage.
The service was quick and efficent. We ordered a margherita pizza that came on a lovely crisp base and was as good as any we have had in Christchurch. Wine prices start around the $9.00 mark. We would have no hesitation in returning.

Oh dear, where to begin....
We made a booking which they couldn't find.
We arrived an hour early and were not even served drinks for a good 35 minutes nor were we seated at the empty table we had booked.
When the rest of our party arrived we were finally seated, the duty manager brought us the drinks menu and gave them to half the table before stopping for a chat for a couple of minutes.
We were then told our waitress would be with us shortly to take our drinks order.
After 20 minutes a 3 times requesting water, our drinks arrived.
We ordered our various entrees and mains including meals that had (GF) beside them indicating Gluten Free but when THEY finally came out there was obviously Glutenous bread which they did replace after pointing out the menu had the GF beside the dish.
They brought out most the entrees except 1. When we asked for the entree we ordered the duty manager was very rude and condescending and at that point the evening was destroyed!
I would not recommend this place to an enemy, the food is quite bland and the customer service is DISGUSTING!!

Three of us went for lunch on a lovely day, and were lucky enough to be out of the verandah - fresh air but out of the sun. What a lovely spot, in fact seating anywhere indoors or out is nice, as the new Dux has been set up beautifully. (Just be aware, limited off street parking, suggest your group car pools.)
The menu I think is less extensive than previously if I remember correctly, but a reasonable selection to choose from still. I choose the mushroom croquettes, these were beautiful, but surprisingly came out with a little garnish only, so was more a large entree than a main. I then asked for a side salad, and this came out very quickly, freshly made and just the addition the croquettes needed. My friends both had the same dish, which i can't remember fully other than it also involved portobello mushrooms, hollandaise sauce and more, I think on ciabatta? They both enjoyed it.
Two desserts, one a lime cheesecake, and the other a pear tart. Both found favour. Service was friendly, timely and helpful. Looking forward to further experiences, and more Ginger Toms now the Dux is back!
