Press Release 13 September 2010
Feast of Canterbury sends its thoughts of support and well wishes to all those effected by the devastating earthquake which shook us from our beds early Saturday morning. In the wake of this tragedy we must make special mention of our fellow restauranteurs and others in the hospitality industry who will be severly hit by this on the back of an already lean year.
Despite this adversity Feast is pleased to announce that 14 of their 20 contributing restaurants are still operational and continuing with their Feast menus until the 20th of September. The Feast organisers are working hard to keep the website www.feastofcanterbury.co.nz updated with any changes to the Feast calendar as new information comes to hand.
Due to the earthquake Feast have announced the postponement of their MoreFM Finale Festival set to proceed on the 15th of September, in a grand marquee on the grounds of historic Riccarton House. The Finale which boasts events like Beertopia craft beer festival, DeCant wine celebration, Dine by Design themed dining spaces, masterclasses, the Hats off Gala Dinner and Twilight Farmers' Market will now all commence in their current format beginning the week of December 15th taking on a 'festive' theme for this time of the year. The Taste Events Company have contacted many ticket holders thus far and event organiser Jamie Bennett is 'overwhelmed' that over 95% of ticket sales have been transferred to the December festival.
The Taste Events team have been visiting some contributing restaurants sampling their fair and have been 'very impressed' at the standard and value for money of the Feast menus on the whole and stress the fact that those who can still venture out, do so in order to support our local businesses.
For restaurants like Mona Vale, Saggio Di Vino, Clarendon Restaurant, Octagon Live and of course all other bussiness who remain closed the Feast contributors and organisers wish you all a speedy recovery. The Feast organisers themeselves have had to temporarily close their restaurant Taste at Riccarton House, and are devastated that a year of planning and hard work has been shattered by a minute of destruction, despite this the ever popular Christchurch Farmers' Market which runs on the grounds of Riccarton House every Saturday from 9am will still proceed.
